Position:                                     Coalition Coordinator

Accountability:                          This position reports directly to the Executive Director, in conjunction with the Executive Team for the Healthy Harvey Coalition.

Location:                                    Onsite, Newton, Kansas

 

Summary: Under the supervision of the United Way of Harvey and Marion Counties, the Healthy Harvey Coalition is seeking a motivated and community-minded individual to support and lead coalition initiatives that improve community health by addressing the social determinants of health (SDOH). This position will be responsible for facilitating coalition activities, fostering community partnership and implementing projects, as well as coordinating, recruiting for and the sustainability of the Healthy Harvey Coalition and its corresponding Leadership Teams and subgroups.

                                              

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coalition Facilitation and Management

  • Lead and facilitate coalition meetings, encouraging collaboration and community engagement.
  • Coordinate coalition events, training sessions, and outreach activities to increase community awareness and participation.
  • Assist in grant writing for continued success of the Healthy Harvey Coalition.
  • Actively recruit and train community members for Leadership Teams and subgroups.

Program Development and Implementation

  • Design and oversee programs addressing SDOH, focusing on areas such as healthcare, food, physical activity, education access, economic stability, and community connectedness.
  • Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets in alignment with any grant requirements and coalition priorities.

Community Engagement

  • Act as a liaison with local organizations, government agencies, and stakeholders to foster partnerships and support for coalition activities.
  • Encourage resident involvement, especially among populations most impacted by health disparities, to advance health equity in the community.
  • Conduct presentations and provide information on coalition initiatives to community groups, residents, and stakeholders.

Evaluation and Reporting

  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes.
  • Coordinate with funding partners and Healthy Harvey Coalition teams to show progress on grant initiatives.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data on coalition activities, ensuring compliance with grant reporting requirements.
  • Share successes, lessons learned, and best practices with coalition members and community members.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in sociology, community development, public health, social work or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Prior experience in community health, public health or coalition building is preferred.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
  • A passion for community health and a commitment to fostering equitable health outcomes.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Initiative, self-discipline, and the ability to work without supervision.
  • Dependable and reliable to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively with community leaders, demonstrating a blend of leadership presence and cooperative work style.
  • Ability to engage diverse groups, build collaborative partnerships, and manage multiple projects.
  • Capacity to help determine community needs.

 

Salary: $40,000 per year

 

Working Conditions

The coalition coordinator is a full-time exempt, salaried employee of United Way of Harvey and Marion Counties, Inc.  Normal workweek is Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm and allows for flexibility in schedule.  However, some meetings and/or special events require time outside the regular workweek. This position may require travel throughout Harvey County and across the state of Kansas if required by grant funding.
